Motivation
Given the current market conditions and the increasing demand for sustainable, carbon-negative solutions, this proposal offers KlimaDAO an excellent opportunity to invest in a project with high impact and financial returns while expanding the on-chain carbon ecosystem.
Project Overview
Glanris is a climate-tech company specializing in the production of patented, sustainable, low-cost biocarbon. Our biocarbon serves multiple applications, including water filtration, cement replacement, concrete aggregates, and soil amendment. We have been awarded patents in the U.S., Japan, India, Vietnam, and China, with additional patents pending in Malaysia and the UAE.
This initiative is in line with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including:
SDG 2: Zero Hunger
SDG 3: Good Health and Well-Being
SDG 6: Clean Water and Sanitation
SDG 7: Affordable and Clean Energy
SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities
SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production
SDG 13: Climate Action
SDG 14: Life Below Water
SDG 15: Life on Land
Location
We are expanding our production capabilities to a 200,000 sq ft facility in Sacramento Valley, California, provided rent-free by the City of Colusa. The city will also be a customer, utilizing our biocarbon in various applications.
Key Project Data
Type of Project: New facility
Carbon Removal Methodology: Biochar
Durability of Carbon Removal: 100 years
Co-benefits: Renewable energy generation, soil health improvement, water retention, and more.
Financials
Our initial machine can process 5 tons of raw biomass per hour, yielding approximately 20,000 tons of biocarbon annually. This will also generate one megawatt of renewable energy, for which we have a Power Purchase Agreement with the City of Colusa, amounting to roughly $1.3 million a year. We will also generate approximately 40,000 carbon credits annually.
Impact and Co-Benefits
- Carbon Sequestration: Thousands of tons of CO2 will be permanently sequestered annually.
- Renewable Energy: Excess thermal energy will be converted to electricity.
- Soil Health: Biocarbon improves soil health, increases crop yields, and enhances water retention.
- Sustainable Products: Upcycling low-value biomass into high-value, sustainable products.
